Migrating Biznet Web Mail Contacts (Merak IceWarp)

in order to migrate your existing contacts from the Biznet web mail reader you will need to go to the biznet webmail reader at http://mail.biznetis.net/webmail/ and logon with your old username and password.

Once logged on, you will need to click on Tools on the top navigation bar.  On the sub navigation click Import/Export.  You will then get a popup window with 3 tabs across the top.  Click the Export tab.  By defaul, Contacts should be selected for item 1, and the format is CSV using comma's as the seperator.  This should be fine.  Click Export and you will be prompted to save this file somewhere.  I recommend saving this file somewhere easy to find such as your Desktop.

We have found that there are some bugs in the export feature within Merak.  It doesn't always export all the fields.  We recommend opening the CSV file using Excel and going through the spreadsheet to see if all the data is there and to fill in fields that are missing information.  Address information and phone information tend to have some glitches as there is only 1 set of address information in the export but you can have up to 3 in Merak.   If you kept your contacts simple you are less likely to have problems.

Once you have verified your spreadsheet has the correct data or if you plan to go through all of your contacts and update them once they are in SmarterMail you can continue to the next step.

The next step is to open the SmarterMail https://mail.prowebis.net/ and clicking the Contacts icon along the left side of the screen.  This brings you to the contact page.  At the top you will see My Contacts.  Directly beneath that you will see three other tabs.  Click the Actions tab and a sub menu will drop down.  Click Import/Export then Import to bring up the file selection page.  Use the Browse button on the right to select the file you downloaded earlier.  Then click Next which can found above and to the left of the file selection field.

On the left it will list the fields from the file and on the right are fields you want to import them into.  Below is how this might line up for most people but the address and phone sections you should review because the way Merak exports these sets you don't know what type of data is stored in phone1, 2, and3 and they may not all be the same.  This is one area where it is good to update the spreadsheet first so that all of phone 1 are the same type, such as "Work", and the same with phone 2 and 3.  You would also want to review the address information to make sure it is there and it is all of the same type.  Of course this can all be update once it is imported as well.
